Being Your Own Brand- Inspired by TED

How many times have we watched a commercial and said to ourselves “What kind of moron would buy something like that?” or on the overhand, felt the insane urge to have something because we knew it would instantly change our lives forever. That is all parts of the ups and downs of the marketing world- it has a huge impact on us. Like Simon Sinek states in this seminar, companies like Apple have risen above all other computer companies because they truly believe in what they sell and they know exactly what their purpose is. If you’re fortunate enough to have anything Apple, you know how lucky you are every time you use it. Check out Simon Sinek in this seminar  on TED about how to be a leader.

One of the questions Sinek used when comparing advertising strategies of various companies is “Why do we get out of bed in the morning, and why should others care?” I think this is something we can relate back to our own personal lives as well. If we want to be successful, I believe it’s important for us to know the answer to this question. We, like major companies, need to sell ourselves and build a support group that people can believe in. Everyone’s got a special talent, what’s yours?

This has got me thinking about personal branding when it comes to getting a job. There is so much competition out there, and we need the employer to think “This kid knows their stuff” and get their socks knocked off. I’m trying to figure it out for myself right now. I know my ultimate goal is to become the go-to woman for all communciations and client-relation needs. I’m a people person, always have and always will. I want to be the one that other companies can trust. I guess that’s a clear goal, but now I have to work on how to get there.

I want to make every morning worth it and keep moving forward with my goals. I’m going forward with this because I am awesome and can do anything I put my mind to. Maybe it’s not the most definitive statement, but it’ll do for now.

You are too, now give yourself a pat on the back and continue to show everyone what you got!
